It's come to this

by Carol Chambers   Jul 8, 2004

So at last it's come to this,
A heart out in the cold;
Just hold me for a little while,
As the memories unfold.
Summer rain fell gently,
As did I into your smile,
But somewhere did we venture wrong
And must have for awhile
Deep inside I knew it,
I could sense it in your touch
Still warm as once, but distant
I loved you far too much.
No one else could ever show
As much love as me to you,
But here I am, unloved again
With a heart that I once knew
Was it that I never gave enough?
The world too small a place?
When nights we shared eternity
Feeling the love of sweet embrace.
So now that I have lost you
I'll pretend that I'm alright,
But I'll miss you every single day
And cry for you at night
So cheers to a lover's past
Who'd rather his heart free
I'll raise a glass and drink to him,
Now he's just a memory...
