Rumination

by Beautiful Chaos   Dec 1, 2016

I knew how to love once
Until one day
I became hopeless
Broken
Afraid

Until my heart was dissected
Betrayed
Left in disrepair
Scars on my flesh
Reflecting the pain that lived inside me

My mind
So untrusting
No longer capable of deciphering
Distinguishing between
What was and what could be

The more I lost
The worse it got
Even living started to seem impossible
Improbable
You get tired of raging

You feel like fire
In a world of oceans
Extinguished

If you're lucky
You flip the switch
You zombie forward
Drown in a sea of your own blood and tears
And disperse back into the universe

If you're not lucky
You wake up in the aftermath
Caked in failure
Hating yourself
Alive

Yes, Love can be a battleground. We are all suckered into it time after time but often it ends in betrayal, yet we all believe what they say, never really learning the error of our ways until it's much too late and ones heart is broken.
    Another great poem BC!

There is much I like about this. Your similes really ramp up the imagery. I especially like the "zombie forward" when life is a struggle, walking, hey living is just like moving like the dead.

Really well done-such a sad write with a lot of longing to complete this life but yet you struggle on. Just facing another day can be torture and you've done a really wonderful write describing just that-hugs to you-
