A teacher broke mine

You carry yourself in the type of way that suggests you’re not to be messed with;
And while a lot of people don’t like you for that I get it.
You can fool anyone you want-
Put up the front that says you’re all about doing you and getting your shit together but I’ve seen you slip a few times.
Sometimes it’s the way your
eyes soften for a few seconds every now and then when I look at you
or maybe it’s the way your smile always seems to be a little
less forced when I crack a joke but-
I know you’ve been hurt and you’re still trying to figure out what trust feels like again.
You have a way about you where you keep to yourself at work and you use alcohol as a bandaid to cover your wounds but darling all it does is exactly that-
Cover them.
Drown them out.
I’d said I’d wanted to be a nurse and
You’d said a registered nurse broke your heart-
But i had always wanted to be a teacher and a teacher broke mine.
