I've honestly never seen a wasp as big as this bugger. It was 2 thirds the size of my finger and it's sting was nasty. There is an area of my shin, which is about the size of my hand that is still red swollen and sore 24 hours later.

    Seriously why do wasps exist?

They do say if you put a hot metal spoon onto the sting it takes away the pain but I've never tried it. Horse flies are the worst. I had my whole hand and fingers swell up for days after a bite from one of them. I have no idea what attracts wasps to us or what to do to prevent them from stinging but I do sympathise a sting isn't pleasant. Hope you are enjoying your holiday Milly x

I don't think a hot spoon would have worked. My leg hurt for 3 days and in quite a large area. I feel truly sorry for those who have severe reactions to such things.

I think the worst bug I've came across was one in Kenya they called the Nairobi Eye. It excretes an acidic substance that blisters and spreads. I fell victim to one of these years ago. Horrible black and red things. There's a similar looking bug down south but it's plain black.

Think it's commonly known as Dorset fly.
