Resipiscence

Expectation is a starved wolf
wandering a desolate
forest-

languishing and ravenous.

And I am an unsuspecting deer
in search of greener pastures.

Yep, had to look it up as well.
    My take is different, though.
Expectation leads to frustration and suffering. The innocent does not necessarily expect, yet is dissatisfied with its lot as it stands. Hoping to better its status, the innocent places itself at the risk of falling prey to expectation. Becoming aware of this risk allows the innocent now to diminish expectations and reform its outlook, although this portion of the process is suggested by the title, not specified in the verse.

Aegis.. I absolutely loved this although I have to say that I had to look up the title which was fascinating and made me wonder what you could be repenting for until I read further your piece because it basically say 'if you expect something given to you on a plate then your not going to get it because you have to work hard for it' - be it relationships, a house, a job etc... But it seems that in the past with the words you've used you've been on the receiving end of thinking that if you expect something it will just come. This piece I feel is about wanting a better relationship that hasn't come along yet because you've expected it but that's just my thoughts. An excellent piece as always.
    Take care x

Aegis, I admit having to look this word up. A change of heart or position. Sometimes what we expect, whether it be from another person or situation drives us to make a choice that will make us vulnerable, it can be a good thing or disastrous.
