EPITAPH OF MY SOUL

by M.A. Hudson   Jul 17, 2019

IT'S NOT ENOUGH FOR ME ANYMORE,
WORK, FRIENDS, AND THE LIKE;
WHEN THE EVENING IS DONE, AND THE LIGHTS ARE OUT,
I GO HOME EMPTY EACH NIGHT.

SPENT YEARS HELPING OTHERS, MY LIFE'S CALL I THOUGHT,
DOING THE RIGHT THING A LOT;
BUT IN ALL MY DOING, AND ALL MY GIVING,
IT WAS AN EMPTY HEART THAT I GOT!

BARRENNESS CHIDES, DEEP WITHIN MY SOUL,
NO MATTER THE SMILE ON MY FACE;
THE WINDS OF LONLINESS, MAKE COLD MY BEING,
MY HOUSE IS BUT AN EMPTY SPACE.

THIS DEATH I FEEL, IT IS MY LOT,
TO CARRY FOR TIME AND AGAIN;
THE STRENGTH TO FIGHT IT, I POSSESS NOT,
BUT STAND AND BURN IN ITS' FLAME.

RESCUE ME, RESCUE ME, BEFORE ITS' TOO LATE
REDEEM ME AND SET ME FREE;
DELIVER MY SOUL, FROM THIS HELLISH FATE,
AND THIS IS WHAT YOU WILL SEE!

NO CRYING, OR TEARS ON MY PILLOW AT NIGHT,
NO MORE GRAY, NO MORE DREARY DAYS;
NO HEAD HUNG DOWN, NO SHAME, NO FROWN,
BUT A WOMAN'S' HAPPY HEART DISPLAYED.

REFLECTING BRIGHT AND SHINING AFAR,
THE COLORS OF LOVE IN HER SOUL;
MAKING WHAT WAS A DULL SENSELESS LIFE,
EXUDING LIKE A BRIGHT POT OF GOLD.

MIRRORING THE IMAGE OF A WONDERFUL DAY,
A VISION UNFOLDING I SEE;
ONE THAT'S NOT CLEAR, OR PERFECT, YET TRUE,
IT IS AN EPITAPH OF ME!
