chazak and amats

by tobias kinti   May 2, 2020

we didn't
know it

but it was
our last
night in
town

there's
a mosquito
in my drink
he said

yeah
that happens
i said

he
drank it
anyway

you know,
i said, there
was a snake
behind the bar
yesterday

get out
of here
he said

its true,
i said, i
saw it

it had
a rat too

Jesus
he said

this town
is strange

say it again
i said

we drank
for a while

you know,
he said,
i think we
need to get
ourselves
some chazak
and amats

once and
for all

i agreed

we'd be
better for it
i said

but i think
we will need
to head further
east to get it

thats probably
true he said

how about
we leave first
thing in the
morning

i agreed

how about
one last drink
to seal the deal
he said

i agreed

he raised his
hand

a girl came over

are you a model
he asked

no, she said,
im a waitress

oh, he said,
would you like
to join us

i can
after midnight

its a date
he said

can we have
another round
darling

while i wait
for you

yes
with extra
mosquito
i said

he laughed

the girl didn't

my head swam

the mosquitos whined

the girl went away

to get the drinks

you know,
he said, rubbing
his face

i think
the birds
will sing
much louder
when we leave
tomorrow
