Railings

by Renegade Angel   Mar 6, 2021

Remember that time when we would yell
across those rocks?
Into the St. Louis Harbor?
Make the boardwalk our playground.
Pretend we were superstars on the guardrails
While smoking some cheap cigs and reek?
Jim and Jack were not too far off the railing.
They held our hands, but let go of our memories.
Was told it was no big deal.
We told ourselves we would never surrender.
But the railings got the best of us.
Jim and Jack would be laughing,
While we were crying over the scream
Of the waves.
