Sonnet 55

Preface

At a river I stand,
And gaze into the running water,
Water never returning back,
But always flowing ,
In joyful restlessness,
Towards the greater sea.

And I think of our earthly days,
Flowing too, in joyful restlessness,
And never returning back.

I stand and think, about the passing time,
At the banks of a river, running wild,
In which I sink, with a word and a rhyme,
To eye my grave, with the eyes of a child .
Today I sing, my songs vividly dance,
Tomorrow I'll lie down to rest and sleep,
I will then behold my life as a glance
Then leave, so my songs will rejoice and weep.
Before my death, my death in shades I see,
From the black where the roots of my sins grow
To the white where my virtues shine in glee,
Through all the grey skies, and polluted snow.
A drop of water, I shall live and be,
Crossing life's river, to the greater sea.
