Sunset

by Obscure   Feb 16, 2022

The sun is squeezed from the sky
And I watch the sky pour
Dripping like molten magma
Clouds bursting into flame

From down below we watch it
With flooded eyes and lungs
We feel no safety in its grasp
And yet we do not run

We watch as streams of sunlight
Rush straight towards us, freezing
And this stone sky cools and cracks
To show the flicker deep below

A calm after eruption
The birds have ceased their song
So now we spend our silence
Waiting for the dawn
