Tears at sunset.

by brin macnamara   Jul 15, 2004

Walking in the park as the sun set in the far distant west.
Children played,laughed shared ice cream.
Elderly men played bowls, flat caps, pipe smoke drifting across the green
They too enjoyed their pastime the sunset of their lives.

Here and there lovers idly strolling, some hand in hand,
Others embrace sharing a kiss, a whispered word of love.
But for me...
I walk alone.
For my love is far, far off.
Twenty years my junior, unaware of my love for her.
For I am married and she lies with another.
We both have families-what can be said?
I suffer.
Seeing the lovers causes my heart to cry out in mortal pain.

Silently, inwardly I weep
For I know My desired love will never be.
So although its wrong, a sin, please Divine Oneness hear and grant my prayer.
Tell me Divine Oneness: am I too old for her?
Should I know better?
