As Far As My Eyes Can See

When I was younger, I wrote a fairy tale
I was once your princess, and our love would never fail...

Sounds ridiculous now reading through my old writings.
If I could have seen it coming, saw it happening.

In the story the kingdom was beautiful, lush for miles.
Everyone was in love, a new craze and the perfect style.

I can remember the way you used to take my breath.
I think back on it I realize how close I was to death.

Every story has to have a villain and if only I knew.
That the only one perfect for the part was you.

Sneaking out for adventures in the forest after dark
You quickly found a way to steal my naive heart.

Once a prince in shining armor, no blemishes in sight
Soon turned into a man to afraid to step into the light.

The first bruise you told me was for the best.
You locked me in a dungeon and said figure out the rest.

The story continued and seemed to keep going on.
Until I figured out what was in front of me all along

I never looked back and luckily; I found the key.
Before it was too late, before you destroyed me.

Once upon a time I wrote a fairy tale...
One where I was your princess and love would never fail...

But sometimes things don’t turn out the way we plan.
And thankfully my feet carried me as I ran.

I didn’t stop until I felt the wind surround me in a shield.
I didn’t stop until I was surrounded by flowers in a field.

I’m free, I thought truly free.
In every direction as far as the eye can see
