Almost Perfect

by Midnight Hellebore   Sep 24, 2023

In an instant you broke the floodgates open wide.
Breathlessly frozen in place, I had nowhere to hide.

Every devastating memory came pouring in,
Rushing over my body, caressing my skin.

Closing my eyes, the ice rushes through,
Powerless to stop it of course, it’s you.

My tongue quivers with tantalizing fantasies
Reminiscence laced with circumstantial tragedies.

Aggressively taking over my imagination,
While I’m losing grip with my remaining determination.

It’s all around me - Everything undiscovered
The life we never lived, and all that it offered.

Slowly, my mind comes back down to reality,
Coming to grips with this dejected finality.

Pulling away, before I yield to this feral lure.
That door was closed a lifetime ago - there is no cure.

My eyes meet yours with no words appropriate to say.
Back to the chosen roles we decided to play…

Hello. Nice flow and rhymes. A good write that tackles reality and fantasy, everything is almost perfect until we realize that it is all fantasy and never the reality. Thanks for sharing.
