Grief's Only Companion

by Melatonin Maniac   Jan 3, 2024

In solitude I lay, the ticking clock betrays
A lone companion on this eve so cold.
Traversing this void, this story tells
The first embrace of the year unshared.

Denial, like whispers in the night,
Echoes like laughter, in a vacant room.
I dance with memories in a spectral waltz,
Mourning an absence, a mental tomb.

Anger simmers, a bitter brew within
Why solitude, a cruel decree?
I stand here, an arm outstretched
Stays unshared, drifting about.

Bargaining with time, a futile plea
Escapes my lips, answered by none.
Rewind the clock, rewind the year,
Erase my thoughts, and my tears.

Depression lurks in shadows deep,
A heavy cloak on shoulders so frail.
A throne adorned with echoes, two seats endure,
Yet in solitude, only one heart's imprint remains.

Drowning in the New Year's sea,
Waves of solitude surround, a tempest vast.
Yet in these depths, a resilient gasp,
Acceptance of this despair, a sea of me.
