The Devil in Disguise

How was I supposed to know
The devil was in disguise?

Shifting into a woman,
walking toward my car,
whispering soft as prayer:
I love you.
Please don’t go.

Tears that once were clear
turned crimson in the light,
my blood,
my offering,
My sacrifice.

I fell for the devil,
cloaked as a woman of God.
Her voice was a hymn,
her hands folded in faith,
Yet her prayers were smoke,
incense rising into darkness.

She prayed for me
But her prayers were not for healing.
They were chains,
woven in shadows,
black magic hidden
behind holy words.

How was I supposed to know
The devil was in disguise?

She lied just right.
Every verse she spoke
felt like salvation,
Every touch is a blessing,
Every promise is a psalm.
But devotion was deception,
And worship was controlled.

Swarming the clouds,
shadows flowing,
angels in the sky
Yet they were demons,
in all shades,
singing hymns of ruin,
lifting hands of fire.

Sealed with a kiss,
But it was all lies.

Falling for the devil in disguise
