Concurrent memory

by Beautiful Tragedy   Mar 13, 2026

I woke up to warm blankets;
Sunlight filtering through the window in soft rays of yellow.
Sleepy and disoriented-
The only thing my waking mind searched for, was you.
We’d been on our way to a haunted house in my dream;
Brown hues of boardwalk and pale street lights on the water,
The only thing in the dream that made any sort of sense,
Was you.
Soft brown curls and blue eyes had stared down at me as I clung lightly to your arm;
My cheek resting on your shoulder as I smiled up at you and you looked down at me-
In awe.
A shiver of warmth rose up my spine as I pulled the blankets tighter around me and a soft ache for your presence hit-
I told you my couch had filed a formal complaint over your absence.
The softness of you aches in my chest as the image dances on the back of my eyelids every-time I close them now.
It was just a dream this time but maybe someday-
It’ll become a concurrent memory.
