Take a deep, cool breath.

Today I sit upon my chair,
my thoughts running wild.
I wander through my inner landscape—
its nature, its wars,
and the matters of my heart—
all finding their way onto this page,
in what may be a golden phase for me.

My love for animals, wild and tame,
takes hold of my pen right now.
Let’s see what transpires,
and where the creative juices land.

The wild, untamed earth—
home to Africa’s heritage.
Time out!
Let the farmers, miners, and developers
go to hell!

The elephant walks its majestic path.
Some mistake the lion for the king—
a murderous, lazy fellow
with bad breath—
all the while the elephant
kills not to survive.
A noble creature,
family comes first.

Giraffes stretch to feed,
zebras appear as if still in their pyjamas.
Buck come in all sizes, roaming free,
while rhinos blaze a path.

Hippos swim in pools that bear their mass,
crocodiles lurk and frighten me.
Snakes, and army ants, and the bees—
flies supply the maggots
that clean the landscape.

It’s all intertwined in perfect harmony.

The apes—our cousins—always naughty,
fun fellows,
sometimes showing us another way.

Nature is not a thing apart—
not merely a work of art to view—
but home to us all.
Literally, it is the breath in our lungs.
