Hold your hand

by Beautiful Tragedy   Jun 19, 2026

I’d spent the whole walk debating holding your hand-
The chilly air had my teeth chattering and my fingers numb.
And I counted your footsteps beside me on the pavement as I debated-
Memorizing what it sounded like to have you walk beside me,
I was cold and utterly comfortable at the same time.
Besides,
You have hands that are as holdable as you do lips that are kissable.
I took too long to find the courage and before I knew it we were too close to your car so-
I shoved them in the fleece lined pockets of my coat and mourned the lost opportunity.
I tried to force my eyes not to study the reflection of headlights in your curls on the drive back;
The way it illuminated the curves and cast a shadow on your face,
I failed miserably and have zero regrets.
I’d spent the whole walk debating holding your hand-
But when you pulled up to my house I went to kiss your cheek only for you to turn your head and kiss me,
And I forgot that I’d meant to hold your hand at all.
