A ribcage full of startled birds,
a thousand voices fighting to be heard.
In the darkness I take a withering breath,
painful and haunting, cheating death.
The cracking of my bones becomes their song,
and while my skin begins to bleed,
I feel the birds claw beneath my chest,
beating their wings in search of rest.
But even chaos cannot uproot me,
for I cannot be freed.
