Can't I Keep You?

by Morgan   Aug 5, 2004

Tears run down my cheeks
Her eyes somehow speak
As I hold my angel for the first time
Her face seems so warm and kind

She has her daddy's nose
And I bet he knows
She has my baby blue eyes
Except hers hold no lies

Oh, my beautiful baby
This longing to keep you is driving me crazy
I don't what you to end up in some stranger's arms
Or in hands that cause harm

I need to give you my love
You're my baby from above
I need to care for you
I'll do anything I need to do

I know you're mine
It's like you're a sign
It's not just the blond hair
It's because, for the first time, I care

I won't expect anything
I'll do everything
I'll scare away the monster's under your bed
I'll read you stories like I was read

I'll blow raspberries on your tummy
I'll be your mommy
I'll help you build a castle with blocks
And I'll deal when you don't want to wear your socks

I'll buy you the tooth brush with Scooby-Doo
And I'll change your diaper when you pooh
I'll buy you useless toys
And as long as I can, I'll put off the subject of boys

I'll cry when you start your first day at school
I'll buy you clothes so you'll be “cool”
I'll try not to embarrass you when you're with you friends
And I'll be here when a relationship ends

I'll try to keep you from growing up
And when we play games, I'll never show you up
I'll love you no matter how you act
Even when you start to talk back

So I promise I'll be there for you
I'll do anything I have to do
Just as long as I can keep you in my arms
Away from the world's harm

I'll teach you right from wrong
I'll be your mom
So can't I keep you, my baby girl
Because you've already become my world
