What We Were

by Jackie Bilson   Aug 19, 2004

I lay on my bed and close my eyes,
I remember everything in detail.
Every freckle and every feature,
A subject I could never fail.

Hugging me so close to you,
I sighed as I kissed your lips.
And you ran your fingers through my hair,
I love the touch of your fingertips.

You looked into my eyes and smiled,
"I love you" you said with affection.
You were my first love and I'll never forget,
How close we came to perfection.

I felt so fragile and yet so strong,
And I was more alive than ever.
I wanted to cry out in joy,
Now that our two hearts were beating together.

Sometimes I still miss you and the way we were,
But I can't ever forgive that you left me for her.
