One Last Night

by Jackie Bilson   Sep 9, 2004

This poem is about what I would do if I were able to turn back time by one year.

Paul, please can we just talk?
Just us two, alone?
Walk with me for just a few minutes,
Our destination, unknown.

Let me just look at you,
Exactly how you are.
You'll always be my prince.
My first love, my shining star.

I want to remember the way you smile,
The way you smell, your touch.
And I want to tell you you're the only one,
And how I love you so much.

We don't have that long left,
Two months, at the most.
Two painful and unbearable months,
Then we'll be cease to be anything but ghosts.

Please hold me in your arms,
And whisper promises in my ear.
Tell me I'm just being silly,
And that you'll always be here.

Fool me and charm me,
Promise you'll never leave.
Though I know the truth, when it comes from you,
I have no choice but to believe.

Kiss me and brush away the tears,
Tell me everything will be all right.
I know its just a fantasy,
But at least we're together again
For one last night.
