Autumn Leaves

by Jackie Bilson   Oct 30, 2004

Note: Hopefully you'll get the meaning but, this is my first time doing this type of poetry so, I'm sorry if it's too vague.

Autumn leaves scattered
Everywhere they fell
One floated over to me as I lay
On the grass on this beautiful day

So coarse and prickly to the touch
But so beautiful, I knew it was special
Perfection in every crease, every fold
The leaf was warm and I was so cold

The feeling of my smooth skin to the coarse
Was inexplicably mesmerizing
Silent voices echoed in my mind
That what I had was what I needed to find

The clouds began to darken
Winter's howl ripped through the sky
The bitter wind blew the leaf free
Flying and gliding away from me

I tried to stand up, I stumbled, I fell
I snatched the leaf out of the gust's fingertips
My leaf should always be here
Together we had nothing and no one to fear

I looked down at what I held
The roughness now stabbed at my skin
The perfection crushed to grains of sand
The perfection had been destroyed at my hand

I opened my palm and let it go
The tears fell as the pieces drifted
I whispered goodbye to the autumn sun
It was clear to me that winter had won.

Perfect is the word I have in mind, no, the meaning is not vague, at least not to me, it was very beautifully writen and very creative. This poem paints a image in my mind and also makes me think of what love was like... ... work work again Jackie, take care... may you find spring's warmth after winter's cold... :)
