My Big Sister In Hiding

by Alison   Oct 31, 2004

Why do you hide away?
Why don’t you voice what you want to say?
Why do you protect the real you from everyone around?
Why don’t you show it when you’re feeling down?
Why do you act the way they want you to?
Why don’t you break free and start doing what YOU want to do?
Why do you put out this fake mask to live up to their expectations?
Why do you always try to make perfect impressions?
Why do you pretend to be happy, when you’re actually sad?
Why do you pretend to be content, when you’re actually mad?
Why do you live this stupid lie?
Why don’t you let it out that you cry and want to die
Why do you refuse to be yourself?
Why don’t you let me try to help?
But, no matter what you say or do,
I’ll always be here to make sure that one day you’ll be fine,
And hopefully one day, sister,
You’ll let yourself out to shine.

(Dedicated to my older sister who's lived her life by what other people want from her)
