An Adult Of The Future

by Jackie   Nov 15, 2004

I am a child ready to explore.
Causing havoc, complication and confusion.

Out in the back yard,
While I climb my tree,
And near the top,
I open my eyes…

I am all that I see,

The stars that twinkle so bright,
My reflection in the water,
The rims of my glasses,
The rain that falls,
The shovel that digs the hole,
The teddy that the child hugs…

I am all that I hear,

The music from my Walkman,
The person speaking on the phone,
The traffic outside,
The footsteps on the wooden floor,
The child screaming and crying in my mind…

I am all that I feel,

The confusion in my mind,
The throbbing of my head,
The waves hitting me behind my knees,
The pain deep down,
Yet the warmth in your heart,
Some things so strong, I cannot explain…

I am all that I taste,

The saliva in my mouth,
The sweet jelly tots,
The sour zaps of lemon,
The combination; sweet & sour,
The salt that comes from our tears…

I am all I’ve been taught,
The goodness of life…

And all I can teach,
Is the loveliness of life?

I am all that I think,
The questions that soar through my mind,
Each and every second,
I am all that I think.

I have broken through the railings
Of enclosure,
Because
I am an adult of the future.
