Never Again

by Driver   Nov 23, 2004

I made you smile from ear to ear.
We made plans to last for years and years.
Everyday brought more happiness and love.
And each night I watched over you as you slept.

Every time you smiled, your face would glow.
And every time we kissed our love would grow.
I held you close to keep you safe.
Cause I could never bare to see you cry.

But somewhere along the way I fell.
Too much to carry on my shoulders just brought me down.
You tried to help but I pushed you away.
And your tears of sorrow would fall everyday.

Faster and faster I fell into the darkness.
You tried to help but I was too blind to see.
You cried my name, but the screams in the dark shut you out.
Every night I prayed for the suffering to cease.

And then one day, I felt a drip.
Looking up, I saw your sad face and I began to wake.
Fear reached my eyes, and I had all I could take.
Stepping out of the darkness I reached for you hand.

Wiping your tears away, I began to sigh.
Holding you close, I began to cry.
I almost lost the girl I love.
But never again, for I’ll hold you above.
