The Computer(A Sound Poem)

by UM   Nov 30, 2004

A small rectangular box,
about twice the size of a shoe box,
whirs, the fan inside making a whirling,
a click, a beep, a buzz, a clatter of sound.
The CD-ROM,
whirling in-tune with the whirling and whining of the fan.
A clatter of fingers crashing into keys,
typing away on the keyboard.
A swift click of the mouse, static from the speakers,
a Top 40 hit song issuing forth.
Another click, the screen goes blank with a pooosh,
sudden silence,
The whirring and whining of the fan ceasing,
a sinister silence after
the clicks and clatters, the beeps and buzzes.
