Christmas At The Crisis Center

by Ashleigh Skye   Dec 16, 2004

You were very nervous,
That cold Christmas Eve,
How could Santa find you here?
His gift would he receive?

Your eyes kept flitting,
Towards the clock,
And when it turned midnight,
You turned the lock.

You ran downstairs,
And to your delight,
You looked out the window,
And saw him in mid-flight.

You quickly placed the package,
Beside his ice cold glass,
And quickly ran back upstairs,
To sleep and dream of the past.

You woke up early the next morning,
With a smile on your face,
Along with the rest of the children,
That occupied this place.

You bolted to the empty glass,
To see if your note was still there,
But as you approached the table,
You noticed a small teddy bear.

It had a little scarf,
Made entirely out of lace,
With a little not attached to it,
Right bellow its face.

You picked up the red paper,
To read what it had to say,
It said your name in silver and gold,
But the rest was faded away.

You hugged the bear so tightly,
As your face beamed with joy,
You had a little Teddy,
Another special little toy.

You looked out your window,
And saw another child looking in,
His nose black and frostbitten,
Yet he still managed to give you a grin.

His eyes shifted toward the bear,
As he turned to walk away,
You thought for a split second,
then you gave him your bear that day.

Your mother came to see you,
And asked what happened to the bear,
You told her that you gave him away,
To someone who needed more care.

She gave you a little smile,
Along with a great big hug,
And said, "I'm very proud of you,"
"You did a very good thing Dug."

As you turned to walk upstairs,
You saw the little boy,
Playing quietly in the snow,
With his brand new toy.

He turned around and saw you,
And gave you a huge wave,
You gave him a giant smile,
And then he faded away.

You heard a faint Ho,Ho,Ho,
In your little ear,
And that was the day that you learned about,
Christmas and Christmas cheer.
