So Much For Promises

by Amber   Jan 13, 2005

You promised me your love forever
You said we’d always be together
You promised me your world and heart
I thought we’d never be apart.

You asked me to give you a chance
And promised me a lifelong dance
You said you’d never make me cry
And that you’d always show your pride

You promised you’d be so true
Different from what I was used to
You said you’d be the perfect guy
To help me spread my wings and fly

You said you’d make me stronger still
But now my heart has blood to spill
I thought I found someone who cared
That for once my feelings would be spared

I wish I’d known how wrong I was
My pain won’t go away, it never does
I wish I could say I didn’t care
Or hide my weakness and despair

I wish I could believe those promises now
But you’re not here to tell me how
So much for promises that never come true
So much for promises made by you
