Father's Sacrafice

by Leo   Jul 2, 2003

I opened the door,
and there stood a man I hadn't met before.
He was in his dress blues,
and had a folded up flag which meant bad news.

He spoke to my Mom,
and she broke down into tears but the Marine stayed so calm.
I just stood their in shock,
not knowing if it was OK for me to talk.

The man said my dad had died in the line of duty,
and that he sacrificed his life for the good of this country.
He said a few more things and then went away,
he left my mother crying and with
nothing to say.

My dad died for you and I,
and he never questioned why.
For him it was always do or die,
and now I feel like I'm about to cry.

I know that my dad has gone to a better place,
a place of beauty and grace.
I wish he was here,
but I know he will be in soul every day of the year.
