Poem

The tear
a pool of clear salt water
falls, fell, falling
from my eye
hits the paper like
black ink takes over
sinks in, spreads
filling in the cracks
like water
on the desert floor
which the sun
scorches, scorched, scorching
eats the paper, and twigs
orange, red, yellow flame
devouring everything
melting the wax on the candle
and dripping in onto the cake
icing, ice, iced
over with snow so
white and pure like
the soft silk on the bridal gown
rustles quietly while
Canon in D
plays, played, playing
on the creaky swing set
at the old elementary school
bells ring shrilly but
teachers drone on
and off the light switch
goes up and down
the sun goes behind trees
sets, set, setting
the table with forks
clink, clinks, clinking
and clanging as the fire truck
races, raced, racing
past the finish line
yelling, yelled, yells
from the stands
screams, screamed, screaming
for help from the darkness
lost, lose, losing
ground fast
slipping, slip, slipped
from oily fingers and
shattering, shatters, shattered
your life into
pieces, pieced, piecing
them together.
