Remembering February

by MEGAN BUTTERLY   Feb 25, 2005

February is the month
to look back on the past
one month out of the year
it goes by way to fast

this month, remember the slaves
that survived
the slaves that died
for doing what they were told
defiance would just get them scold

the slaves would go on and tell their heart to stay strong
telling their kids this slave period shouldn't last to long

before the kids knew it they were older to
there parents were dead and they had to continue on and remember what there parents have said

they've tried to fight back
but the color of skin is what they seemed to lack

they've always stayed strong
did what they were told
they even got beat till they were old

time has past and slavery is still here
the masters and owners is who they fear

they thought slavery wasn't fair
but no one else cares

the slaves went far
for what they believed in
they finally got somewhere
and they even have scars

remembering February is what you should do
Without black history month you wouldn't have a clue
