Past Dream

by Ashelin   Mar 15, 2005

Ethereal woke suddenly from her dream
Something had changed, but she couldn't see.
She sent out a small ball of light
And saw in the window
Glowing red eyes
She gasped and jumped out of her bed
The small girl ran from her room
Toward her parents room
But then she heard a scream and knew
That all she had known had changed in a single night

She ran from her home and toward the gates
To go and find help in the village
She turned and looked at the horrid seen of
Carnage and destruction
She gasped and turned
Running into the night
The screams of her friends following her
Like wolves on a hunt
She felt burning hot tears fall down her cheeks
And her golden dragon wings
Caught in the branches of trees
That reached down to her
The claws trying to entangle her

She ran in fright and then tumbled
Beneath the welcome branches of a willow
She gasped and panted
Her tail curling around her feet
Finally she let her sobs over whelm her

She sat there for so long
Just letting the burning
Salty tears fall
Until a tall shadow fell over the tree
She looked up scared
Knowing her life was in danger
Then gasped seeing the red eyes
Of the hunter

Ethereal woke with a start
Her bed sheets a tangled mess
Beads of sweat still on her forehead
It was all a dream
Of her lost past
