The Patriot

by Monique   Mar 17, 2005

Oh the patriot,
with the red, white, and blue.
Oh the patriot,
how i despise you.

Oh the patriot,
with his closed mind,
Oh the patriot,
who's brain i cannot find.

Oh the patriot,
the All-American hick.
Oh the patriot,
how tempting you are to kick.

Oh patriot,
grow a spine,
Oh patriot,
America?
It's not worth your time.

Well, while I can guess that you've insulted more than a few people with the poem, I thought it was terribly entertaining. Especially considering that you come from Florida (I have a lot of family there).

I just have to wonder how the patriots that began this country--men and women who mingled thought and intellect with patriotic action--have for the most part become defined by a crew of reactionary, ignorant, and often militaristic individuals. It's sad because there's more to patriotism than blind allegiance to whomever is holding your conservative carrot.
