Don't Cry, Soldier

by Carlee Ann   Mar 19, 2005

He holds the photo in his hands
A smiling little blonde
Sitting next to her brother
And he dreams about their mother

The letters from home
Are close to his heart
The ink and the messages inside
Are the love that they provide

He misses them so deeply
Sitting there under fire
It's ripping up his soul
But their freedom is, right now, his goal

Soldier, try not to cry
As you lie on the cold hard dirt
You are a hero, can't you see?
Thank you for my liberty

Another soldier lies on a cot
The nurse tries to explain
He's bleeding from the bullet he took in the chest
Fighting for freedom, and now he will rest

The wife sees the seargant, at her door
Her nightmares come to life
He explains her husband died today
Fighting for the freedom of the USA

Come now, soldier
Keep your chin up high
As on my couch I lie
Fight for my freedom, even if you must die

I look at me, my selfishness
My wealthy life so full of everything
It's not that I don't appriciate
I just don't think I remember the heroes daily doing great

Take a moment
To see the freedom you have
And whisper just a little prayer
For the men and ladies fighting over there, over there.

Thank you, Soldier
For everything you do
My hero, the proud, the brave
It's all of us you save.

** GOD BLESS THE SOLDIERS! Without them, I wouldn't have the ability to express my opinions in my poetry.**
