As I Watched

by Just Lucy   Mar 25, 2005

I watched a boy
I watched him stumble down the road
I watched him swear and curse

I watched him stare with those dark empty eyes
full of questions about 'why'
I watched him run in front of cars
I watched him hitting anything around

I watched this boy
I watched him collapse
I watched him fall

looking like he didn't want to be him anymore
looking like he didn't care if he got caught at all

I couldn't leave him lying there
he isn't a lost cause
but what else can I do?

he was obviously lost
nowhere to go to next
and wondering why he wasn't there yet

he looked confused and hurt to me
I can see under his dark mask of drugs
but still i kept my distance
violence isn't the key

this boy was all alone
trying to drown his life
trying to drown the screaming of his real abusive father
Trying to forget that he was never wanted or loved

No-one ever deserves that pain
No-one ever deserves that truth
No-one ever could imagine
what that boy was going through

Great poem, I love the way you can take a real life event and turn it into such a great poem.
