Does anybody care –A short ghazal

by StormyWeather   Mar 26, 2005

A lonely child is dying but does anybody care?
She has abandoned her heart's call, does anybody care?

She sits and thinks and wonders who will find her sitting there
They will not help, they watch her fall, does anybody care?

She cries her soul out to the world and her heart is laid bare
She’s forgotten how to smile, does anybody care?

Please my dear child cry no more for we know life is unfair
You have been through so much peril does anybody care?

No one cares if that girl dies and she is full of despair
She's in a dump in Senegal does anybody care?

Her family are lost and she can’t find them anywhere
She blocks them out and stands up tall does anybody care?

A child who is only 10 wrapped up in her own nightmare
Her real life sucks but dreams cure all does anybody care

Hush Gali, someone loves you, you no longer have to glare
As you take off your ragged shawl, does anybody care?
