The open road

by Johnny Mac   Apr 2, 2005

Moonlight shines across an empty road tonight
Headlights chase what I can not find
This is my escape
With windows down, cold wind blowing, and watery eyes
A feeling I remember so well
Left alone to cry
Watching her beautiful blonde hair sway in wind as she walked away

Two a.m. destination anywhere
Two headlights in my rear view mirror
It’s coming up fast
I slow down to let them pass
Maybe it’s her? She was always so quick to pass me bye
She pulls to my side, with my look in her eyes

For a second we were one in the same
She is the girl who left me standing in the rain
Both traveling the roads without a care
Both with destinations anywhere

She didn’t see me
She was content on the road ahead
In a new town, with new faces to see
Something tells me we will someday love again
