Near-perfect Child

by Beautiful x Disaster   Apr 4, 2005

I wrote this in inspiration of my best friend's middle school years.

There’s this thirteen year old child
She was one of sweetest girls of all time
Her life was very close to perfect
Her only flaw, wasn't even a crime

She was one of the smartest of her class
And had many friends at school
But one quality stood out of them all:
She never felt the need to be ‘cool’

She felt pressured by everyone around
Her family, friends, and teachers
To be perfect in everyway possible
Involving change in physical features

Her only flaw consisted of 10 pounds
10 pounds too heavy, 10 pounds too many
If you had a cent for each time she cared about it
You wouldn't even have a penny

One day she heard her parents talking
About her losing some weight
And how beautiful she would be
The pressure in this conversation was very great

She went to her room and cried
She cried from 2 o’clock to eight
She decided then and there
That she would watch what she ate

Her finger went down her throat
And up everything came
She swore she would only do it once
But a bad habit, it became

She didn’t even eat a lot
But when she did, it never stayed
It all came up through her mouth
All because of the comments people made.

This beautiful angel, that God created
Was put through so much hell
She was just extremely close
To wishing this earth farewell

Throughout her 3 months of starvation
Her life had changed so much
She no longer hung out with friend
And her smile just lost its touch

People began to notice the change
From such a near perfect soul,
To such a depressed skinny girl.
That no one could control.

These changes went unmentioned
Although everyone all ready knew,
Her eating disorder was horrible,
Even her parents knew it too

One day, in the hall, she passed out
Everyone gasped as they watched her
Everything from then on
Was merely just a blur

Minutes later, parents were called
And an ambulance was on the way
All of this happened to this little child
All because of how much she weighed.

So the next time you call someone fat
You best think twice
Because in the end
There is always a price
