In memory of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis

by Sabine Taylor   Apr 9, 2005

She went her way
Through a world
Of people
She could not understand
The ones who could not understand her

But she had to join the group
The group she never ever wanted to be
A part of

She became a part
Of the social relations
She never ever wanted to experience again
In a life of appearance and intrigues

She played the role of her life
Through depression and loss
And she played it so perfectly
Though she always knew what was going on
Though she was the one in the background
She held constancy
In a world of people
She could not understand

She was put on a pedestal
Everyone staring at her
Seeing her in the deepest depression
But that was the time when
She had the bravery of being herself
The past was let behind her
The future seemed like a new world
And life had new chances and joys again

Society was displeased
Friends were surprised
The country was shocked
The world was confused
But she enjoyed
Being herself again
She turned her life
Did not change herself
Just brought her personality back
To the foreground
When nobody expected it

She now entered a plane
To a new world
To the world she loved
When she was just herself
When she had been naive
Following her dreams
In career and love

She lived a second life
Enjoyed all the joys
She could not Saviour before
When she was just the one in the background
But the one in the hearts
Of all the women
In America and in the whole world

Now she was not idolized anymore
Because she went her own way
Through life and love
Made her dreams come true
When everyone was still
Staring at her
And they called her behavior
A mortification for the country
Called herself thankful

But she went her way
Through a life
She wanted to lead
When she had been naive
She did not let them ruin
Her new life
She did not care about
The people who could’t understand her
She did not want to look back
For that time there was just the future
In life and love

But her way was not easy yet
Life did not let her go on like
she wanted to
Through life and love
Great losses followed her
But she always held constancy

She followed her hobbies
Helped people who needed her
But she always followed her own way
Even when nobody
Could understand her
Through pain and loss
She was always caught up
In the spot light

First they did not like her
Then they loved her
Because she was different
They were fascinated by her
They mourned with her
And were shocked by her reaction
After the confusion
They could not respect
The real woman
They loved for years
The one who stepped out
Of the shadow of the perfect wife and relict
After shock, anger and confusion
They loved her
Because they saw her again
As the perfect wife and relict
They adore her and wanted to
Put her on a pedestal

But she went her way again
In her mother country
Between all the people
She had left before
But she still searched for
The happiness and joy
In life and love
She just had experienced
A few times
But with constancy
She did not let anyone
Affect her life and world

Her way was not easy
Her life has been rocked
For so many times
But she never lost the hope
In herself
With constancy
She left us
As an idol
That is now put on a pedestal
By the group of people
She never ever wanted to be a part of

That was just because she had to stand in the background for some time, but after JFK's death she first could be the real Jackie again.
