Free

We watched the sun set in the distant sky,
Together holding hands I thought I could fly.
Like a bird just leave and be free,
Only you and me.
We laid together on the grass as the moon rose above the earth,
You would kiss me and I suddenly knew my worth.
We both preferred darkness over light,
A time when the day gave birth to night.
But lately I've had these overwhelming rushes of emotion,
Your hold over me is like some never ending potion.
You had me so blinded for awhile,
I couldn't see past your intoxicating smile.
I'm now more free than I've ever been,
I've got to see things I've never seen.
I've got to feel things I've never felt,
But I'll never forget the way you made my heart melt.
It didn't work out between us and that's okay,
I've learned that love doesn't just happen in one day.
Even though in the end things turned out bad,
I'll never forget the fun we had.
