The Picture in My Memory

by kiley   Apr 26, 2005

The picture in my memory
Is painted with purple skies and clouds as wispy as cotton candy,
With rain sprinkling lightly onto the freshly cut lawns
As Pacey runs across scurrying to get inside to dry his puppy paws.

The picture in my memory
Scans pages of books past read ,
With words flying out at me and hitting me in the head
Anecdotes of times spent with friends fondly emerge from the deepest part of long forgotten memories,
As the way things were, takes the place of the way things might have been.

The picture in my memory
Tosses me back to yesterday,
When winter changed to spring, then summer was here to stay
Pictures with friends and family etched into my memory
The happy chuckle of Emily rings throughout my mind,
And Trevor's jack-o'-lantern smile appears before my eyes

The picture in my memory
Takes me back to ones lost
My Grammy Brenda's wise words echo off the sides of my mind and escape through my ears
Pressuring me to do my best
Before it is too late
Making me realize how quickly time goes by.
