Ice Cream Man

by No Motiv?   May 3, 2005

The sweetest song
trickles into my ears
notes hung on the
sharpest tune

Usually he comes
around five,
but summer he's
here at noon

Cursing his early
arrival, I sprint to my
piggy bank

I don't have the time
to count the quarters,
So I grab all that I
can take

Running bare foot,
the summer concrete is hot,
but I couldn't
care a less

Feet slapping against
the pavement,
I ponder which treat
will taste the best

I wave my arms and
shout real loud
as he slows to a
gentle stop

Out of breath,
I slowly raise my hand
to put my money on
the counter top

He smiles at me,
and takes my money,
But the loss was
none at all,

Without a second
thought, I decide -
"Well sir, today I'll
have the screwball."

the ice cream man rocks

    HAHAHA

I love random poems like this. People think writing poetry has to relate to feelings or emotions... IT DOES NOT! I love this. Keep the originality coming.
