I know you think you tried your best
But you don’t have to look very far
To see you didn’t give your all
Only what you needed to stay
You followed the rules
Most of them at least
And because of that you didn’t have to leave
When you met her
You didn’t want us
We were just baggage
That had to come along
You see when we were young
We didn’t know any better
We did what you said without any questions
But as we grew older
We started to see that it wasn’t right
To see daddy hit mommy
And he wasn’t really joking
We developed a mind of our own
And that raised hell for you
Because we didn’t do exactly what you said
Exactly when you said it
When we started thinking on our own
Our own thinking was always wrong
And therefore it was wrong for us to think
Which made it right for you
So as I sit here today
Writing my own thoughts
Exactly as they were thought
Before you deemed them wrong
I see you didn’t really want us
You didn’t really show you cared
And you don’t have to look very far
To see you didn’t give your all
