Almost had it all

I almost had it all
i had a grip on it
it was just barely in the palm of my hands
and then i just let it slip away
he is my life
he is my friend
he is my lover
we said we'd be together to the end
he gave me a key
a key to his heart
told me to find a way there
and said he would be all mine
but i was sure I'd mess it up
but he assured me everything would be fine
but on the way there
i was so close
but i lost the key
i messed it up
he said it was always about me
which was a big lie
I'd hope I'd just die
he was my lover

that's what we thought
was till the end
but that's only thought
i said, i only had a grip on it
i really did let it slip away
i could of held on tighter
