If I Died Tonight

by Emma Carnage   May 19, 2005

If I died tonight
Who would cry for me?
I know many would be crying
But underneath their tears
It would be for themselves
And not for me

They would feel sorrow
For losing this soul
But deep down they wouldn’t much care
About me at least
They would ask about themselves
How they could get through it
Manage this loss
How would they handle it?

I don’t mean to sound selfish
Or make them seem greedy
But I would like to know
Who would care if I died
Just care about me
And not even in the slightest bit
About themselves

Even the best people
The most giving in the world
Worry about themselves
When a loved one dies
No one in this world
Is that giving
To not think about themselves
In every single situation
That comes their way

If I died tonight
All my friends and family
Could you do one thing for me?
If I were to die
Don’t worry about what will become of you
You will make it through
But don’t worry about me either
Just remember that I had a good life
Just remember I don’t want you to cry
I hope you can do this simple task
Please just remember
That I loved you and always will
