Because she was THERE

10 pm a 16 year old out for a drive;
Looking forward to her life, just glad to be alive;
5 minutes later a drunk driver crosses the yellow line;
Within a second or two the 16 year old dies;
Her life was cut short, life was unfair;
The drunk driver survived, the sixteen year old no longer there.

Sea of faces flow through her mind;
Memories flash as her whole life rewinds;
First birthday, fishing, happiness, sorrow;
It’s then she realizes for her, there is no tomorrow;
Her life was cut short, life was unfair;
She attended her funeral and no one knew she was there.

She looks back on her life, full of wonderful moments,
Eating mouthwatering apple pies that her grandmother sent;
Yearbooks, best friends, homework, and tests;
She remembers everything, but knows it’s her time to rest;
Her life was cut short, life was unfair;
She was forced to leave all the people who cared.

If only she wasn’t there on the road;
If only the drunk driver was smart enough to stay and not go;
A life was taken away because of another person’s choice;
A person who was stupid, who didn’t listen to his inner voice;
The girls life was cut short, life was unfair;
A future leader is now dead, simply because she was there.
