Chance Encounter

by sarahbarah   May 30, 2005

As I was walking down the street
Who do you think I saw the chance to meet?
It was an old man who had come my way
And here is what he had to say
"Hello my dear now please tell me
What do you in a true friend see?"
"Well I don't know was my reply"
But I saw a pleading glance in his eye
"I guess someone who cares for you
That is what true friends always do"
He looked at me with a look that said
"Are you sure? Think deep in your head"
And with that he gave me a card
He said, " Do not look until you've thought very hard"
So then he turned upon his heel
He left me to ponder if he was real
I continued on throughout my day
Without even a slight delay
But when I got home that night
The encounter came into my sight
Well simple curiosity caught my appeal
And to the card I looked with zeal
But to my dismay the card was blank
And the anticipation in my heart had sank
But then I remembered what the old man said
And memories filled my head
Of the first day of school
Science class came my way
As I entered the classroom my heart dropped
And into my seat I plopped
Very few I knew that day
"it wont change" my head would say
But then I turned and looked next to me
And whom did i see
Someone I did not know
But somehow we met and wouldn't you know
It was us who would get in trouble in class
It was highly unlikely either of us would pass
And then we became best friends
And now story does not end
We went through good and bad
Happy and sad
And one day a note came my way
"Cait I'm moving" was the text
You wont guess what happened next
It wasn't just a simple move
It was many miles and friend I would loose
We cherished our memories
And as I remembered this while I lay on my bed
I realize she was a true friend that heaven sent
As this came into my mind
I ran to the garbage hoping to find
The card that was given to me
By that gentleman so graciously
And as I picked it up with care
I saw new words were written there
Now me and my friend we had lost touch
And I did miss her very much
Well upon this magic card of mine
Guess what I happened to find
An address for Ms. Sarah H.
So this is why I'm writing you
Because without you Ive been very blue
So since we can keep in touch
Promise me we will do such
Because even though we are far away
We are still best friends anyway
{my best friend Caitlin wrote this for me when i had to move 3 yrs ago. we don't talk much anymore and i really miss her and i just wanted to put this on here for best friends. never give up on them.}
