Off to College

What am I going to do when you go?
You are one of the best friends I will ever know.
You’re leaving this fall, I’ll still be here,
I have to go through high school one more year.

Off to college you’ll go and new things you’ll see,
Will you be able to spare any time for me?
I know our friendship will continue to be dear,
But it will be hard with you really not here.

And it will get worse when we’re actually apart.
Who will I run to when a boy breaks my heart?
I’m afraid when you make new friends, you’ll be too cool,
To hang out with a girl who is still in high school.

You’ve started a new phase in your life, and I feel left behind.
You’ll have new experiences of every shape and kind.
And it’s not like there’s anything I can do,
I very well couldn’t stop you.

I know wherever your path may lead you, you’ll have a great life,
But it will still cause me some heartbreak and strife.
I hope that you’ll remember me, and just have fun,
But right now for the summer, we’ll play and laugh in the sun.
