Ghost of You

by Matt   Jun 6, 2005

Haunted by the ghost of you
Stuck in this world of shadows
He's gone to the shore now
To walk his feet on the cold sand
Moonlight is his only vision
The stars question his thoughts
Waves roll in, crashing in his mind
He's lost to her now, not wanting to come back
She had him all these years
The freezing water rushes over his skin
Like razors the shells in the waves cut him
Clouds overcast his glowing halo of light
The dark is his chance to see for the first time
He can see his life
Where it's going, where it's been
He realizes how empty he's lived
Like his pockets and his heart, empty
Opening his hand he sees the medal his mother gave him
The silver glinted in the darkness
Questioning why he poured his being into the trust
Thinking it would all be okay sometime
Closing his hand, he closes his eyes
Says one last prayer and casts it into the icy waters
People in their houses look at him
Their eyes full of pity, but he can't feel it
All he feels is the emptiness
The numb feeling, spreading through his body
But now he's walking on
His figure fades into the darkness
When there is no farther he can walk
He seems to disappear
And only his footprints are left
Soon the tide will wash them away
And he will haunt her thoughts forever
